Autumn Term 1 2021
Here are Class One, familiarising themselves with the ‘backbone’ of music: pulse, rhythm and pitch.
Class two have had a wonderful time learning the basics of music through the song ‘Round and Round’. In the clip below, you will see the children singing beautifully to the song and playing the glockenspiels in the instrumental section.
Class Three have thoroughly enjoyed learning to sing this two-part song, ‘Let Your Spirit Fly’. In the instrumental section of the song, eight brave children volunteered to ‘show off’ their improvising skills.
This half term, Class Four have been ‘rocking out’ to ‘Living On A Prayer’ by Bon Jovi. They have loved learning to sing the song and in the video below, you will see the children playing their keyboards, in the instrumental section, to a piece of music composed by one of the children.
The children have had a wonderful time singing an array of songs. For the recording below, the children chose their favourite so far, ‘When I Grow Up’ from the musical Matilda. Hope you enjoy the performance.
SUMMER TERM 2021
We have had a very musical term, we even had a couple of visitors into the school, which has been an amazing, enriching experience for the children.
CLASS 2 & 3
CLASS 2 & 3 have enjoyed a wonderful musical workshop (part 1) led by Geoff from BlueJam. It is a 'word, song, sound' project, featuring drumming, singing and song writing. Below is a collection of photos of what we got up to in the first workshop. The children had a fabulous time. Please use the link below the videos to see Class 2 photos on their class page.
CLASS 4: Class 4 were invited by Cumbria Library to take part in the world wide 'Make Music Day', which takes place on the 21st June every year. Local musicians, Max and Edwin, accompanied Class 4 as they sang a medley of musical songs and the official song for 'Make Music Day 2021': 'Stand By Me'. The children sang wonderfully and did us proud. Click on the link below to see their wonderful performance. We feature near the beginning and then near the end. Enjoy.
CUMBRIA SINGS - IT'S OK (PLEASE JUST SAY)
Welcome to the launch event for Cumbria Sings. Our first song is called 'It's Ok (Please Just Say) by Susan and Adam Sinclair from One More Song (www. onemoresong.co.uk)
This song encapsulates this current time for everyone. The video features children and families from all over Cumbria and is the first in a series of singing events for Cumbria. All the children from St. Catherine's we're invited to upload any of their creative responses. Hopefully this video will inspire you to join in any upcoming projects. We hope you enjoy it.
SONG ACADEMY is calling all creative and musical young people to get ready to enter
The Young Songwriter Competition 2021.
It's a wonderful opportunity to engage your children and celebrate their creative talents at home. The young songwriters are encouraged to ensure their songs are original compositions, however the song it self can be performed with the help from family and friends.
With judges including Fraser T Smith, Tilm Odell, Miranda Cooper, Calum Scott and Tom Grennan plus fantastic prizes, including a recording studio session and Yamaha equipment worth £1,000, this year is set to be bigger than ever.

8.5.2020 - VE Day Celebrations:
Hello children, hope you all had chance to celebrate and reflect/remember VE Day. With my family, we made our own bunting and decorations, observed the 2 minute silence on our doorstep and we had afternoon tea whilst listening to World War 2 songs. It was a day of reflection of the past, of all those that sacrificed so much for the freedom we enjoy today; and the present, thinking of those who are working so hard on the front line in hospitals, battling Covid-19.
With this Friday being a special day to celebrate VE 75, I have found a link to share with you: songs of World War 2. I hope you enjoy listening to them with your family. Below are some questions I would like you to consider when listening to these nostalgic songs.
