Reading at St Catherine's
At St Catherine's, we follow the CUSP Reading curriculum, which is thoughtfully designed to develop confident, fluent, and enthusiastic readers. Through carefully chosen texts, explicit teaching, and structured practice, pupils build strong foundations in decoding, fluency, and comprehension, enabling them to engage deeply with what they read. Children are taught to draw meaning from texts, make inferences, retrieve key information, and explore themes and language with increasing independence. CUSP places a strong emphasis on vocabulary and background knowledge, ensuring that pupils are equipped with the understanding needed to access a wide range of literature and non-fiction. Our aim is that every child not only achieves highly in reading but also develops a love of books, becoming curious, informed, and thoughtful readers for life.
