Class 3 trip
Class 3 had a ‘grand’ day out at Maryport Aquarium yesterday. The children watched an informative clip about the destruction of sea kelp, narrated by David Attenborough (who they're writing a biography about) and then looked at all the beautiful fish and sea creatures housed in the aquarium.
Lunch was followed by an extremely fun and exciting play on the playground outside. We finished the day with a litter pick on the beach at Allonby, as part of our topic on pollution and climate change.
It was a brilliant day and the children of Class 3 really showed superb teamwork and camaraderie during the course of the day. Mrs Jones was extremely proud!

Visit to Castle Park
Class 3 had a super morning meeting Joanna from English Heritage at Castle Park. We learned all about the history of the castle and that King Richard III lived there for a short time until his death in battle. We learned lots about this fascinating landmark of Penrith and the children had great fun asking Joanna all about the horrific aspects of castle life in the past.
Fencing with Alex
We had a super workshop with Alex yesterday, who showed us the skills of fencing. We realised that we had to walk like a 'crab' to get the correct stance.
Great fun!

What fun we had on World Book Day!
In class, we watched a 'Footy and Booky Quiz' on-line with the National Literacy Trust. The children loved the multiple choice quiz.
After play, we had a lesson called 'Book Choice Bistro' which explains how children choose a book which is at their level. Miss Campbell and I then served the children in the class bistro with their choice of book from the menu. They also had biscuits and bread sticks whilst they perused the menu.
We then had our own book quiz to guess well-known characters in different genres of books.
Our costumes were amazing!

Class 3 - 'COMMUNITY' Assembly
Class 3 have been learning about the importance of ‘Community’ in their RE lessons. This learning was brought together in a beautiful assembly this afternoon. The children acted out the roles of people in the church community and also dressed up in the communities that they are involved in. For example, Razzamataz and Karate.
Their poetry was read beautifully and the assembly ended with a lovely rendition of the song, ‘Family of God’
A wonderful topic showcased by the children of Class 3.

Our learning throughout the week focused on;
We even wrote prayers thanking God for the wonderful advances in technology and designed posters giving advice on how to be safe on the internet.
Each class shared their learning during an informative parent's assembly on Friday morning.
A Detective from Cumbria Constabulary, Lee Clark will be coming to talk to the older children on Friday 1st March, 2024 re further issues around internet safety.

SCIENCE - ELECTRICITY
We have been enjoying our science topic of electricity this afternoon.
Our challenge was to work out if it was a circuit or not, when Mrs Jones showed us different cards. As a scientist, we had to predict if the circuit would work or not prior to the testing.
It was great fun testing the different elements of a simple circuit. We even used a propeller in the circuit and got it to spin.
We also learned that there are scientific symbols when drawing a circuit and played games to guess what they were!

Community work in R.E.
We have been currently learning about the Catholic Church community in our R.E. lessons. We visited church on Friday morning to meet with Father John Winstanley and some community members, to explore the church and talk about the role of the church within the parish of Saint Catherine’s.
Display for the Library
We’ve been thinking about what ‘freedom’ means to us. Our beautiful hearts represent what we feel and know.
These are going to be displayed in the library as part of ‘Holocaust Memorial’ day.

The Jesse Tree - Advent Display
We have been learning about the Jesse tree in our RE lessons.
The Jesse Tree is a way of telling the story of God's plan from the beginning of time to redeem His people by sending a Saviour. It follows the lineage of Christ's family and key people in the Old Testament that God uses to tell His story from Creation through Christ's birth.
We made individual ornaments to tell the different parts of the story. We also wrote the part of scripture referring to the ornament.
The Jesse tree is named from Isaiah 11:1: “A shoot shall come out of the stock of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots.”

Class 3 enjoyed a session with Joe Davies from Cumbria Opera Group on Monday.
Through repetition, the class were able to learn 4 songs throughout the day. They even helped Joe to write 2 new verses for a song about Cumbria and the Lake District.
The children had great fun thinking up actions to match the lyrics of the songs.
Class 3 performed their songs beautifully to the rest of the school and a selection of parents at the end of the day.
Super effort Class 3!

Wise King Solomon – Proverbs
We have been learning about King Solomon in our RE lessons. Solomon is credited for his contributions to the Bible, especially the book of Proverbs.
A proverb is a short, popular saying that contains a piece of wisdom or advice. It uses figurative language to convey its message, rather than stating its meaning literally.
We worked in groups to decide how to use some of the advice from Proverbs in our daily lives.
We played a matching game in groups too.
Our own Proverbs that we wrote are absolutely amazing!
Year 4 - Rounding
The year 4 children have been learning to round 2, 3 and 4 digit numbers to 10, 100 and 1000. It's a tricky concept.
I've put some interactive resources on here to support learning.

Handwashing and Respiratory Workshop
Class 3 enjoyed a handwashing and respiratory workshop with Shannon Irving, who is the Technical Officer for Public Health & Public Protection at Westmorland & Furness Council.
We found out lots about microbes and how they can make us feel very poorly. We carried out an experiment to see how far a 'sneeze' can travel through the air if not stopped in its tracks (for example catching it in a tissue or sneezing into your sleeve).
Some children washed their hands in a substance that shows up all the germs under a ultra-violet light. It was amazing to see if we don't wash our hands correctly then the germs are still obvious on our hands.
Did you know that you have to wash your hands for 20 seconds and sing 'Happy Birthday' twice through, then your hands hopefully will be lovely and clean?

Skateboard Workshop
